Water route or barter
This route emerges as a form of commemoration of an event that occurred in the eighteenth century, when the town of Montánchez and Torre de Santa María decided to reach an agreement by which Montánchez, with a church rich in imagery, delivered to the neighboring town the image of San Mateo. He did it in exchange for an animal, in this case, a pig. The path followed by the men and women of Montánchez to carry out the exchange today leads to the so-called 'Ruta del barter'.
